He represents Pakistan in international cricket and has played domestic and franchise cricket for teams including Peshawar, Islamabad United, Lahore Qalandars and Multan Sultans. Farhan began playing cricket in his hometown of Charsadda, initially using tennis balls and tape balls. After his family moved to Peshawar, he joined Peshawar Gymkhana Club in 2008. He initially trained as a fast bowler before switching to batting in 2011, following encouragement from people around him. His domestic performances helped him enter Pakistan's national setup. He made his T20 International debut against Australia in July 2018, although he subsequently spent periods outside the national team before returning to international cricket. Consistent performances in domestic and franchise competitions strengthened his position as an opening batter. The 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup became a major milestone in Farhan's career. He scored 383 runs in the tournament, setting a new record for the most runs by a batter in a single edition and becoming the first player to score two centuries in one edition of the men's T20 World Cup. He also earned his One Day International debut in March 2026. In October 2026, Farhan was appointed captain of Pakistan's men's T20I team. He subsequently led Pakistan in a three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, scoring 238 runs across the series and setting a new record for the most runs in a bilateral three-match men's T20I series between Full Member teams. Farhan's career reflects a progression from local cricket to domestic competition, franchise leagues and international cricket.
